FAQs About Dental Implants

  • What is the procedure for dental implants?

The dental implant process typically involves several steps. First, the implant post is surgically placed into the jawbone to act as a replacement tooth root. Over the next few months, the implant fuses with the bone in a process called osseointegration. Once healing is complete, an abutment and a custom-made crown are attached to restore the appearance and function of the missing tooth.

  • What are the benefits of dental implants?

Dental implants offer many benefits, including improved appearance, stronger chewing ability, and long-term durability. Because they replace the tooth root, implants also help preserve jawbone health and prevent the bone loss that often occurs after tooth loss. They are designed to look, feel, and function like natural teeth.

  • Can a bite affect dental implant placement?

Yes, your bite plays an important role in dental implant planning. An uneven bite or excessive pressure in certain areas can affect how implants are placed and how well they function long term. Your dentist will carefully evaluate your bite and overall oral health to ensure the implant is positioned properly for stability, comfort, and long-term success.

  • Will I be able to eat my favorite foods again?

Yes! Dental implants function just like natural teeth, allowing you to comfortably enjoy foods that can be difficult with dentures or missing teeth—like steak, corn on the cob, and other tough or crunchy foods.

FAQs About Full-Mouth Dental Implants

  • Who is a candidate for full-mouth dental implants?

A consultation and imaging will determine whether implants are right for you. You may be a good candidate if you:

Are missing most or all of your teeth
Have severely damaged or failing teeth
Wear dentures and want a more stable solution
Have adequate jawbone density or qualify for bone grafting
    Are in generally good health

  • How many implants are needed for a full-mouth restoration?

Most full-mouth restorations require four to six implants per arch to securely support a full set of teeth. This technique is often called All-on-4 or All-on-6 implants.

  • How do I care for full-mouth dental implants?

Caring for implants is similar to caring for natural teeth:

    Brush twice daily
Floss or use specialized cleaning tools
Visit your dentist regularly for cleanings and checkups
Avoid smoking to help maintain implant health

FAQs About Implant-Supported Dentures

  • How are implant-supported dentures different from traditional dentures?

Traditional dentures sit on the gums and may shift or slip during eating or speaking. Implant-supported dentures attach to dental implants, which helps:

    Prevent slipping or movement
    Improve chewing ability
    Provide better comfort and stability
    Preserve jawbone health

  • Are implant-supported dentures removable?

There are two types. Removable implant dentures (snap-in dentures) can be removed for cleaning. They snap securely onto implants. Fixed implant dentures are permanently attached to implants and can only be removed by a dentist. Your dentist will recommend the best option based on your needs.

  • How long do implant-supported dentures last?

Dental implants can last 20 years or longer with proper care. The denture portion may need replacement or adjustment after 10 to 15 years due to normal wear.

FAQs About Dentures

  • Who is a good candidate for dentures?

Dentures may be recommended for patients who:

Are missing multiple or all teeth
Have severely damaged or decayed teeth that cannot be restored
Want to restore their ability to chew and speak properly
Are looking for an affordable tooth replacement option

  • Do dentures look natural?

Yes. Modern dentures are designed to look very natural. They are custom-made to match your facial structure, gum color, and smile, helping restore a natural appearance.

  • Are dentures comfortable?

It may take a few weeks to get used to wearing dentures. At first, they may feel slightly bulky or loose, but most patients adjust over time. If discomfort continues, your dentist can adjust the denture for a better fit.

FAQs About Dental Bone Grafting

  • Is bone grafting necessary for dental implants?

In some cases, yes. Dental implants require sufficient jawbone to securely hold the implant post. If the jawbone is too thin or weak, a bone graft may be needed to create a stable foundation for successful implant placement.

  • What materials are used for bone grafting?

Bone grafts may come from several sources, including:

Autografts: Bone taken from your own body
Allografts: Bone from a human donor
Xenografts: Bone from animal sources (commonly bovine)
    Synthetic materials: Lab-made bone substitutes

Your dentist will recommend the best option for your situation.

  • How long does a bone graft take to heal?

Healing time varies depending on the size and location of the graft, but most bone grafts take three to six months to fully integrate with the natural bone. Once healing is complete, dental implants or other restorative treatments may proceed.

FAQs About Aftercare

  • Is swelling normal after a bone graft?

Yes, it’s normal to experience some swelling following the procedure. Take prescribed or any over-the-counter pain medication as directed by your provider. An ice pack can also help with swelling. Apply it to the outside of your cheek for the first 24 hours.

  • What can I eat after an implant procedure?

Stick to soft foods like yogurt, smoothies, applesauce, mashed potatoes, and soup for the first few days. Avoid hard, crunchy, or spicy foods as they can irritate the site.

  • How do I keep the area clean?

Rinse with warm salt water. You can brush your teeth as normal, but be very gentle.

FAQs About Financing and Payments

  • Do you offer financing for dental implants?

We partner with Cherry, Union Bank, Proceed Finance®, Alphaeon®, and CareCredit®, for financing options. If you want to finance your treatment we can help you apply in office.

  • Are my dental implants covered under warranty?

Yes! If an implant fails to integrate, we will replace it once, free of charge. However, for the warranty to be valid, an annual implant examination, including X-rays and/or regular dental cleanings, must be conducted at our office.

Note, this warranty does not extend to individuals who smoke/vape/chew and or any other form of tobacco use, those who have or have developed an uncontrolled systemic health issue, such as but not limited to autoimmune disorders, severe osteoporosis, or any condition that necessitates long-term steroid usage.

Additionally, this warranty does not cover implant failure resulting from accidents, such as vehicle accidents. If smoking or a medical condition is suspected as the cause of implant failure or other complications requiring treatment, a medical examination and appropriate blood tests will be necessary for the warranty to be applicable.

  • How much do implants cost?

The cost of a dental implant can vary depending on the complexity of the case, materials used, and whether additional procedures are needed. We will provide you with a detailed estimate during your consultation.
